Seawolf park open?

Post by wittich »

Is Seawolf park in Galveston open during in Nov.- Dec?
Does it get much fishing pressure now that flounder season is officially closed?

I remember seeing the photos of elbow to elbow fishermen trying to take advantage of the fall flounder run.

We caught three nice flounder, I got one of the three, on our Nueces Bay wade November 9th. Tough letting them go. As mild as it has been I wonder if there won’t be significant numbers of flounder out there December 15th when the closure is lifted?

I’m not familiar with seawolf park other than hearing about it and seeing the fall run photos. Is it good for other fish besides flounder?

I caught three keeper flounder this fall season before the closure, two fishing from the friend’s boat and both those came on paddle tails, one in shallow water over live scattered shell and the other over packed sand. The third and biggest one that came fishing out of the kayak in the last week of October was caught on an olive Borski Slider near a shallow marsh drain outflow with scattered shell.

In my very unscientific opinion the flounder numbers seem good or at least reasonably consistent over the last several years in the places I tend to fish.

Hope to hear if the park is open. I don’t cross north over the SLP bridge to fish and seldom if ever even get past Christmas Bay. Cold pass thaf runs into SLP is a fun place to fish and can be great for flounder.

It is open, unless something changed recently. There are other fish to catch there other than flounder. Black drum, Reds, speck, even spanish mackerel are caught off that pier. I was there a couple of weeks ago and had 2 strikes that bit clean thru my 20lb fluorocarbon leader, my fishing partner had the same thing happen.??
I lived on that Island for 4 years in the 80's, lived on Galveston for while after that. That area is very good for flounder on the south side of the road. Used to be you could park there and wade but not anymore. When you could, you needed to get there early. On the north side there is more ground to cover and you can wade from the park.
