YAY!!! Picked up my phoenix on Friday.
Can't wait to go down to the coast soon and hopefully meet with some TKF's there.

Flip is interested in anthroarcheology a little, as am I... so it was kind of natural we couldn't help but see unpacking a Pheonix as something akin to umwrapping an Egyptian mummy. Check out how these boats are shipped -- it's astounding! Every time a shipment comes in, we want to take pictures and show y'all this. Well, this time we did, and here they are.
First, there's an outer wrapping of heavy bubble wrap.
Then there's a layer of tightly wound plastic wrapping.
Next is a double layer of corrugated cardboard.
Finally, another tight wrapping of plastic, plus more bubble wrap for misc. parts.
Cheers,
Kurt

- Ah, finally down to the inner wrapping. Be careful with that razor... we want the customer to have the honor of giving her that first scratch!

- The second layer, tightly wound plastic wrap, is cut, and a little peep-hole made in the carboard to see who's inside.

- The first layer, bubble wrap, is cut away. Note the heavily wadded end protection!

As a matter of fact, it all went into the dumpster. But thanks for the reminder! I will personally look into getting it to a recycler. You're right, it's an awful lot of packing material, but it's easy to forget about the larger picture when gazing upon the shiny new "Corvette"...
If anyone happens to know offhand where I can take this stuff, I'd appreciate you letting me know.
Cheers,
Kurt

at times we unwrapp as many as 70 boats a shipment (over 15 years=lots of bubble wrap). we have found that many shippping places will take the bubble wrap for free. we go out of our way and once a week run to the local recyle site and dump the rest off. i bet you have one in the area, might be a pain in the ass but it helps in the long run.

Harold Ray wrote:Pogo, what is your business, kayak and boat sales I assume; where are you located; what does a Phoenix cost?
Ray, you need to contact Creative Feathers Studio, a TKF sponsor, for all that. Connie Mack is the dealer, I'm just the guy who performs any final rigging that may be necessary, and adds extras such as rod holders, paddle parks, etc. for customers who request 'em.
