Re-sizing your photos to attach on the TKF message board

You can use the program "Paint", that's built in to your Microsoft Windows Operating System, to modify/re-size your digital photos before you post them as an attachment on the TKF message board.

Go to your "Start" button > "Programs" > "Accessories" > "Paint"

Open Paint > open your photo file (you may have to change the file type at the bottom of the "open" box to "All Files" to find it.

Once it's open go to > "Image" > "Attributes" and write down the “pixel” dimensions of your file.

Let’s say you have one of the KEWL new Pentax Optio W10 cameras and your digital file is 2816x2112pixels. You want the re-sized photo that you're going to post on TKF to be no wider than 600 pixels wide for a horizontal or 600 pixels tall for a vertical.

Now let's do a little math. Take 600 pixels (the finished size we want for a horizontal) and divide it by 2816pixels (the current file size) = 0.213 (21.3%) round it out to 21%. (Remember to divide the finished size you want by the current size of the file to get the proportional percentage you need to re-size the file).

Now go back up to "Image" > then go to "Stretch/Skew" and where it says "Stretch" - type in 21% in both the horizontal box and the vertical box. This will re-size your photo very close to 600pixels.

Now re-save the re-sized photo and remember to give it a new name so you don't screw up/over-write your original large file.

Your new re-sized file should open in the "attachment" box on the TKF message board.

Another simple way is to install Microsoft's image resizer for Windows XP. Very easy to use, and can resize one or many pictures at once. Allows you to resize to common sizes with 2 clicks, or define custom sizes (say the size of an avatar image). Its as simple as right clicking on the file, choosing resize, and quickly setting the options.

Here is another handy tool, probably the easiest one out there.

Just click on custom size and make sure the width or height is not greater than 100 pixels, upload your pic and there ya go.
