Anyone going to the expo?
I'm going to head down to the TPWD expo in Austin this weekend. They have a big pool to try out kayaks, kayak dealers and what not and I'm going to put my wife in one and try to get her hooked. Anyone else headed down there?
I thought about going back down just to hit the trappers displays and buy some pelts to cut up and sell off as fly tying materials. Last time down I got some great unexpected deals. However since screwing up my wrist I'm just going to stick close to home so it'll be healed in time for the Purtis trip.
If you go have a great time, there's alot to see at the expo.

I'm assuming it will be like the last two years (the only times I have been). If you're going to check out kayaks and paddle in the pool you're going to be very disappointed. The pool is full of sit insides and kids. I think they let them paddle a couple laps. As for dealers, last year Malibu was there (Skinnyfeet) and someone selling Cobras. Don't remember who that was, but whoever it was had the Cobra Pro Fisherman. I was surprised to see it there being sold. Cobra had dealers trash the yaks and they destroyed the mold. Nice looking setup, but it was a real bath tub. And that's from a guy who was one of the top people at Cobra.
On the plus side, check out the birds of prey show and Tom whatever his name is with the shotguns. And there's a ton of other stuff to see. You won't be disappointed in the rest of it.

Good stuff. It was mostly for the novice but the family had a blast. The kayaks were all SOTs and Hobies to boot. They had some cool set ups on the old west and the Buffalo Soilders as well as a great saltwater set up. It was worth the trip. We went and saw the bats come out under the Congress St bridge too. BTW, they will urinate on you.
Oh yeah, my son got his mini-x.
