It is pneumatic. I don't recommend doing this, so if you do, do so at your own risk. I pin the safety back and hold the gun 1-1 1/2" away from the boat and they will not pull up tight.

It was pretty warm today so I got out to the shop and gave her a good soaking with hot water to help close the brad nail holes and any small cracks. I like this stage because this gives a good preview of what she will look like after fiberglass.

Stems are pretty well done, just a little final shaping.

Looks pretty good wet down.

I will give it a light sanding tomorrow and then a pre-coat of epoxy to seal her.

Darrel
If that boat paddles half as good as she looks you have a winner.

Danget Darrel , you are going to make me put my other boats off and start my Northwind. It would be neat to have a ss@g and a full striper paddling side by side . we could do some serious comparisons.

Stopped by Darrels this afternoon and looked at his North Wind , dang I like the looks of that boat. It is going to be a pretty son of a gun.

Saturation coat is done and all of the little nails holes and small cracks are filled in. Getting closer to laying some fiberglass. :D Pics after while.

Gerald, question for ya. You know the enviroment I usually paddle in, would there be anything wrong with 3oz. glass on the exterior and 6oz on the interior of the hull and deck. I ask because thats what I happen to have on hand. Would it still be plenty strong.

yes...I believe it will be fine. The only thing you might do is add a couple more wear strips on the bow and especially the last 4' at the stern. Very nice boat. I like the hull shape. Good work...too.

Goopy. A mixture of epoxy and wood flour.

Very nice is an understatment, did you have any problem glassing over the stem where it protects the lower hull ? and what reason did you use acetone ?

No problem glassing over the stem. I had used "goopy" to soften the edges of the stem/hull junction. I used the acetone to wipe the boat down before glassing to make sure there was no oil from hands or anything. I don't know that it is necessary, but it is something I always do.

Lookin good Darrell! It may just be the camera angle, but it looks like you installed the Ranch Hand Bumper version of stems, Ron better stay out of your way or he may get run over :D

I will just have to paddle faster than he does
I have seen this boat in person and the light color and those big lights just make it look that way.

Thanks Darrell, ''it looks like you installed the Ranch Hand Bumper version of stems '' was why I asked and '' Really they are not thick, must be the camera angle ''

On the TV and Laker I put on the rub rails before glassing, I'd bevelled at 45 degrees and also hand sanded for a nice 1/4'' radius, keeping the overlap short the glass was difficult to lay until it became tacky, had to keep checking for quite a while, probably won't go that way again.
