granger up date
just had a friend run by the lake this evening . with the rain in g-town , the san gabe is up and heading for the lake . with the rain up near jerrel , willis creek which was dry , is now at cresting level near the lake . he also said that the boat dock at willis creek park which was high and dry with no water in site , has water flowing under it . that park had vegetation growing out over the lake bottom , is now under water . so to all you cat fishermen out there , the doppler tower on the north side , and the willis creek park on the west side should have a good bite on . going off the report he just gave me , looks like we will be hitting WCreek in the morning . throwing some danny king under a bobber just above the grass should do the trick .

Let us know if you see any teal or bigger ducks out there too...They tend to like Granger when the water is up.

How was the fishing?

I was headed out to Granger yesterday, but thought it was a bit windy and didn't go. Went over to Brushy Creek and fished from the bank. Caught 2 perch and 1 channel cat. The water is still running over the dam in downtown RR.

Went out to Willis Creek Park yesterday to check out the water. There was a little flow left, and two guys could probably load/unload a kayak off the dock still, but the ramp was closed in by tall weeds. My girlfriend and I put in at Taylor park and basically just paddled, because you can't call what we did 'fishing'.

Anyone been down there since these last rains? I'm planning on doing some river fishing Thursday afternoon-probably just soak bait under the 95 bridge. Planning on heading somewhere Saturday or Sunday. I'd sure like to be able to put my girlfriend on some fish!

We haven't been out there lately, but I'm sure the flow is high on the river sections with all the rain and the forecast isn't any better 95 might be a plan

Re: granger up date
Spent the afternoon fishing off the little rocky sandbar just to the east of 95 on the San Gabe. I tell you what, I'm really becoming fond of that river.
My plan was to set a few poles out with cheesebait, carp dough, and whatever live I could castnet up. I had one rod rigged already, so set it up with Cheese and started castnetting. As Murphy's law would have it, right in the middle of my first throw of the castnest I glance over and see my fishing pole being drug into the water...about 20 yards away. With a mad dash to the pole I was able to just grab the handle as it went from the shallow water into the current. On the other end was a 4-5 pound channel cat. Ended up catching a 2-3 pounder on shad, and a smaller one on cheese, then nothing. All were released to grow and fight another day.
On an interesting side note: I caught several small Rio Grande Cichlids in my castnet. This is the first time I've seen them on this river, and I'm happy to know they're there.
