Work and family responsibilities have been keeping me very busy this year, so I haven't been able to get out for a shot at the crappie this spring...until this morning. Fished from 8:30 'til 11:30 on upper Grapevine. Launched at Trophy Club Park and paddled out toward the lake. Low winds, beautiful morning. Beavers were busy getting their dens spiffed up. Creek mouth is passable with a yak, but there are many stumps right below the water line. Found fish around 2.5 feet down on firm gravel and sand banks with brush. Headed back towards the ramp and started to head upstream, but time was running low(working today) and there seemed to be a boat at every bend, so I packed it in. Managed 14 keepers, several short fish, a few white bass and one fat 15" largemouth. Had a nice photo-op with a healthy cottonmouth, too.
Happy Easter, everyone.
