Is it really a no brainer to go for the 14 due to all the deck space or are there some advantages of the 12 vs the 14 aside from the weight?

the 12 would be easier to flip back over  and more managable all around i would think, but the 14 does have the space... im glad you posted this

That's true with the weight. I know the 14 plows through the surf, but what about the 12?

I don't do BTB, but I went for the PA14 instead of the PA12 because it was $100 more for 2 extra rod holder tubes in the cockpit, extra 100# weight capacity, and the front hatch is way longer, which you can put big fish to transport back or even put a bag of ice with your stuff to drink or eat.

I would think a PA14 should be in theory faster than a PA12. Since I had a RIDE115 I wanted something faster also.

Weight wise it was not a problem for me since I already had a trailer.

I have a PA 14. It's my fourth boat in 19 years and I love it. Great for everything except super skinny water. Oh and surf re-entry...tough...takes extra practice.
