Not a fishing topic - beer

Post by whitedog »

I've long been a Bud Light man. Will drink Coors Light when forced by circumstances. I haven't been enticed by foreign brands.

Recently I tried a Germen beer called Westheimer. It's a light German Pilsner and unpasturized. BTW: this light Pilsner is not light in the American sense. Much better than our regular beer.

Has anyone else tried Westheimer? I had it at a resteraunt specializing in Czech/German cuisine. I had to search around Austin, and found it at Wiggys. I'd like to see it more available.

How about you? Do you have a favorite beer that's a rare find?

This thread might get kicked to GD but I will throw in a couple bits in.

1. Guiness
2. Harp
3. Bass
4. Newcastle
5. Boddington's
6. Young's Oatmeal Stout
7. Elephant
8. Shiner Bock
9. Samuel Adams
10. Chimay Ale

These are a few of my favorite things.....................I refuse to drink Bud, Coors, Miller etc. etc. unless being served by the host and I don't want to be rude or the need is most dire. Both of which happen very little.

The best beer I ever had was brewed by a friend using a Mr. Beer. http://store.yahoo.com/mrbeer/brewkitsmain.html Make any style, strength or flavor you want. Suprisingly good.

A Belgian style beer brewed in Austin (out of business) :(

- Celis Pale Bock & Pale Rider Ale

- Shiner is the only thing close, to replace it.

That's pretty bad since my father-in-law is one of the supervisors at Budwieser.. NO FREE BEER from him...

ALL of the domestic pilsners(Bud, Coors, Miller, etc.) are pasturized which kills the yeast cells to stop fermentation, which also kills the taste. :? About the only domestic (regional beers) I can bring myself to stomach are Shiner Bock, Ziegenbock, and Michelobe Amber bock. I generally stock my fridge with Guiness, from Dublin Ireland where they know beer. This summer my wife and I went to Wisconsin where there must be 1000 local breweries, and all of them make outstanding beer. I tried as many as I could and still walk. If you ever happen to be in Green Bay be sure to go to Title Town Brewery, just down the road from Lambeau Field, on Lombardi Street. Everything they brew is piped right to the bar and served on tap. Nothing tastes as good as a bratwurst washed down with a
really good beer.

Haven't tried that brand, but Warsteiner is pretty good with a slice of lemon. My 2 cents

As much as I drink (alot) I get the cheap stuff. 2-30pks of Busch per week & its ALL good. Plus takes care of the freeloaders that stop by daily.
If you need that fancy name beer you need to be drinking wine!

yeah, I drink a lot too, but mainly cuz I'm thirsty..
and I like wine too, its just hard to let a bottle of wine breathe properly while fishing in the yak...

Busch - If you need a beer real bad, its a real bad beer.

The darker the beer the better. My top five:

1. Old Peculiar
2. Bell Haven Scottish Ale
3. Rogue Dead Guy Porter
4. Samuel smith's Imperial stout
5. New Belgium 1554 Brussels Ale

I have probably neglected a few, the top five is always changing.

My dad makes some pretty good beer too! So I shouldn't leave him out.

To put it in perspective, I am a social drinker. I pretty much, with a few exceptions of course, drink spirits from socialist countries. :D

I meant Westheimer. I saw Warsteiner at a couple of stores before I found a store with Westheimer.

No one has Pilsner Urquell on their list. It's another good beer.

My days spent at the college pub or at any club in Panama City Beach are long gone. The beer I drank was what I could get the most of for a buck.

Although I normally drink Shiner Bock (YUM), my favorite is a beer that I found while in Ireland a couple of years ago. I didn't care for the Guiness beer and asked the bartender for another recommendation. He said that when locals aren't drinking Guiness, they drink Smithwicks (pronounced Smitticks). So that's what I drank there for a week. Loved it! It's like a smooth Shiner Bock. Maybe slightly darker. Drawback was that they didn't export it......until this year! I understand it's available on tap at Irish bars, but I haven't found a bar in the Corpus area that has it yet. If anyone has found it, shout out!
