I'm excited to announce that Mike Garcia will be the guest speaker for us. He will be going over a few topics such as how to mount a video camera on you a kayak and also how to take pictures and film your adventures.

Mike Garcia is Semi-Retired former EMT and Instructor from New Mexico where he acquired a passion for the outdoors from the mountains lakes and streams of the high desert.

In his 20 year EMS career included Heavy rescue, Wilderness evacuation and Ski Patrolling, among many outdoor medical skills. He was always carrying a camera and it got me into making a few training films with a TV reporter/pilot friend. These were some of the first of their kind back then. He tried his first kayak during a swift water course and kind of liked it, but it went to the wayside. Before the EMS career Mike did 6 years as a Navy Gunners mate where he worked on small arms on up to twin 3” 50 caliber twin mounts where he learned some presentation and teaching techniques. He moved into sales with ALS Medical, which brought him into Texas to sell Defibrillators and Ventilators into the EMS market.

Mike says that the best part of it was moving to Austin, where the bass are. He discovered a lifetime passion where he could be free from the outside world and get lost with his camera. In 2011 Mike applied for a position in the Dunkin Lewis Demo team, where these life skills were a real asset and it eventually led me to the Pro Staff with Johnson Outdoors where he love passing on the passion and lifestyle of kayak fishing and being outdoors. Mike’s current position allows him to enjoy paddling his favorite kayaks and filming, but as a side benefit, it gives Mike a great outlet to display his reporting and filming of kayak culture activities.

Mike loves the people in the sport and the promise of great growth and technology to come. Mike say’s that it's cool to be a part of the outdoor industry.
