More Bull Reds at Sea Rim
Three kayakers fished Sea Rim this Thursday and had to work to get 17 bull reds caught.
We had 8" surf with a slight NE breeze of 4-8 mph, to start. The first hour was full of fish...............I caught three and thought it was going to be a banner day.
Then the second hour I only caught one bull red:
Then I sit for an hour and get this funny run and hook and land a monster shark!!!
We all moved around and fish 8, 9, and 10 ft. and at 11 am it just all came to a stop.
So at 12 noon, I moved into 6 ft of water and caught a couple more bull reds.
Also at 11 am the wind shifted to the SE and started blowing 15-18 mph.............the waves weren't big, but were beating you to death. At 1:00 we all gave it up and headed to the beach.
It was a decent day of fishing but we did work for our fish.

You guys launching from the park or west of it where the road hits the beach?

West of it, where you can turn into the beach at the two dumpsters......then take a right down the beach about 3/4-1 mile and been parking around the signs on the dunes.Boomy wrote:You guys launching from the park or west of it where the road hits the beach?

"might" make a run this weekend. Charts show a rig two miles off. Maybe might get crazy and try both...... or might end up staying home and completing honey do's...

I'm almost certain that is considered part of McFaddin.Mythman wrote:West of it, where you can turn into the beach at the two dumpsters......then take a right down the beach about 3/4-1 mile and been parking around the signs on the dunes.Boomy wrote:You guys launching from the park or west of it where the road hits the beach?
The boundary between the two is just to left as you make your way past the dumpsters onto the sand.

Re: More Bull Reds at Sea Rim
Yes it borders the McFaddin Wildlife Refuge.
There actually are three rigs out there, 1st doesn't quite look to be 2 miles, 2nd - about the same distance from the first and 3rd looks like 5-6 miles from beach.
I been thinking about hitting the first rig, myself. About 6-7 years ago some kayakers hit the first rig and didn't do any good...........so no one else has tried (that I know of). Might be a gold mine!!!!

Highway 87 is my favorite Texas highway. So sorry Texas abandoned it. It is glorious and could really enhance the entire area. What's up?
But Mike, if you plan to hit those rigs, let me know, I will be down in a heartbeat!

Wag,
When I was a kid in the late 50s we used to go to High Island to the beach. Tar balls everywhere and I remember old washed out road bed just out in the water. Walk out a ways and there was another. There is no telling how many times the road was relayed further inland. About time they gave up on it. One hundred years (if that long) the waves will be lapping at the base of High Island.
