White Bass Run: the perfect time to learn fly fishing!

After a friend let me try out his fly rod on the water, I bought my own and began learning how to make it do what I wanted. Six kayak trips later I'm sold on it. I can't think of a better way to learn this new fishing style than to get out there during the white bass run. Lots of fish, short casts, lots of chances to work on casting accuracy, and the hungry fish just keep showing up in the rapids. I got the fly sickness so bad I even paddled up the river while running a high fever and feeling truly bad on Friday ...and it paid off with a nice personal record.
The best part of this new adventure is that my son is also hooked (pardon the pun), so we are both looking for chances to go chuck a fly at new species in new places. This is fun!
