Fishing can't be worst than my hunting season. Have not been since Thanksgiving. This coming weekend will have gale force winds.

I know this is an old post. But Duby aint no eskimo. We went yakking at TB cold as heck several times and caught some nice reds. Remember Duby we did have to worry about keeping our beer cold. I'll be around when I get off the project'

I was fishing the SW side of the first barrier and talked to a guy on the freshwater side. He was in a boat and had caught two bass and two reds. I asked years ago about driving down the levee and do not remember how far down you could drive.

I have wanted to try it at least in the skiff and try back into Big Hill for whatever fish there is. I'm wondering if reds would be all the way back in Shallow Prong.

Three miles from the highway to the barrier. There is a gate on the road going up the levee. From street view I did not see any 'Do not Enter' signs. I do not like going through open gates that can be locked.

I went out yesterday, started at the long canal on the way to Baily's, down by the weir. Water is really fresh and looks like YooHoo. Caught two small reds on dead scrimp and a small gar on a shad arty - go figger. Fed a lot of crabs with my shrimp.
Later on, tried by the power lines on the way back towards Bridge City, nothing there, but looks like it could be good with some better water.
Stopped and tried Bessie Heights marsh on the way back, more YooHoo water and nothing biting. :?

with ba steinhagan over flowing, that fresh water coming should keep it muddy for a while.
i'd stay away from the main channels down stream from the flow.

I think Steinhagen contains about 90% of all the silt in the state. Any slight increase in outflow and the Neches is muddy for weeks. Areas we used to fish and duck hunt in the 70's was waist deep. Now some of those areas areas dry land or mucky land.

I guess I need to learn how to fish deep water or take a drive down southwest. Water is going to be messed up for a couple more weeks.

I drove over to Rollover Pass and fished off the bank for a couple hours today. Naturally, I got skunked, as usual - but there were some trout being caught, and some of them were hogs! I don't know why, but I just can't catch a trout to save my life.

I went back to Rollover for about an hour on Wednesday, but the water was really murky and the current was blasting. None of the locals were out, nothing was happening.

That's my tupperware container I keep the camera in.

Man, it was blowing hard out there today! Probably not the best decision to go out, but nobody got killed, so it turned out alright. :D

I think I might switch over to catfishing in Hillebrandt Bayou till the water salts up some and the wind settles down a little.

You can get skunked catfishing, too, I found that out today. I guess that's not the answer, at least not there.

I have pulled a many a redfish out of that pond, Piscator, way too many to count. Keepers and oversizers, it's a great spot for reds.

i've been stocking that pond for years .. catch on the lake side, release on pond side both trouts & reds.
we used to have schools of them running back and forth in the channels under birds chasing shrimp .. those were a rush seeing them gulping down jumbo shrimp.
i think i'm headed somewhere friday morning .. now to decide
fresh or salt

Tried it again today, same spot - did better. One 26-3/4" keeper, two brutes at 34", three little ones and one little croaker.

Went back yesterday and only got three rat reds. The water is still messed up. Will we ever get any salt this year?
