Making a 6 foot fiberglass stakeout pole

Where do you get the fiberglass poles?

Looks like Horse Fence direct is where he gets his.shoffer wrote:Where do you get the fiberglass poles?
You can also get 1/2" diameter x 5' or 3/4" x 6' fiberglass tree stakes from Walmart.
Re: Making a 6 foot fiberglass stakeout pole
A few years back, I tried to make one of these. I bought a tree stake at Lowe's. It was green, knobby, and eight feet long. When I tried to shorten it, I found out it was a piece of thin-wall steel tubing, with a plastic skin, to make it look like a fiberglass tree stake! Ah, beauty is only skin deep. I have tried all over Corpus and the Coastal Bend to find fiberglass tree stakes to no avail. Good luck, TexasJim

Right now I use a homemade Cajun anchor, made out of a aluminum grounding rod I cut down to about 1.5 foot. Drilled a hole and put an D ring at the top. I tie my anchor line to the D ring and when I want to anchor up I spear the anchor into the mud.
It's quick but often doesn't catch in water deeper than about 3~4'. This might fit that bill better. It's not cost prohibitive to try it looks like.
Wonder what the weight on the 7/8" 9' one is. That's their longest. Wonder if it could be used as a push pole......
I gave you a subscribe, looks like you've got some good content and coming up with more.

I, also, fell victim to the Walmart garden stakes.

Some of the TKF guys in the Dallas area used the 9 footers and really liked them.
They're just too long for me to deal with.

Amazon sells the perfect fiberglass rods you need in the correct size. I made mine based on the video on YouTube where you can use a standard PVC fitting with a valve knob to set the height you need. Easy. I posted in these forums of how I did mine. Search my posts.
Re: Making a 6 foot fiberglass stakeout pole
I just use a length of 3/4 PVC with a Tee on the top and the end cut off at a sharp angle. After a while, the PVC gets packed with mud but it still works fine.
