Probably just a come-on...but?

Post by richg99 »

I know that I haven't been around for a while, but...I stumbled across the adv. today. The company claims to be in Houston TX. I've never heard of them.... but I've been out of kayaking for a few years (I'm now age 81). Anyhow, has anyone heard of them?

The price is so low that it has to be nonsense. When they claimed to be in my home town, then I really got interested. Any info appreciated. thanks, richg99
p.s. I have NO connection with these guys.

I couldn't agree more. I even doubt the "we are located in Houston TX" part. That's why I wondered if anyone had heard of them at all. Usually, our own residents know something about a boat/yak manufacturer in our midst. thanks, rich

That kayak is made by point 65 and retails around $2100 without pedal drive...over $3000 with pedal drive. I would definitely not trust that ad

Thank you. That is what I thought. Where are the Point kayaks built?

I actually remember seeing an ad for this kayak a few years ago. I remember wondering how the connection between the halves would hold up in the TX surf.

Don't buy now though. This price is already down $20 from the $99 "factory clearance" I found on the internet. Wait another month and you can probably pick one up for $29.95.

These scam websites pop up all the time with kayaks which retail for thousands of dollars but are listed under $100. Sadly many people fall for it.

Normally, the scammers use Old Town Kayaks for these websites, first time I've seen Point 65.

Drill down to the "Contact us" tab and you get:

Address: No. 667, Workers North Road, Futian Street, Yiwu City, Zhejiang Province
Phone: +8613967418121
Contact: Chen Xinglong
Company: Yiwu Guangqin Trading Co., Ltd.

So many red flags... Houston factory, UK phone number, excellent Chinglish skills, impossible pricing...

No real surprise.

If they hadn't mentioned being in Houston, I would have just passed it by the first time.

thanks, guys.

Great, simple Youtube explaining how the scam works. The key seems to be delaying your compliant to your credit card or payment company long enough...
