I had Good Friday off so I decided I needed to redeem myself from last week's trip to the San Saba.
I launched around 8 am to overcast skies and a light river flow. Drug my kayak up stream to the first pool and started tossing a Llanobug on the fly rod. Caught some nice sunfish and bass, but the larger bass were super skittish and not cooperating. Interesting enough the catfish were aggressive and were chasing down my topwater, which was fun to watch.
These first couple of fish on the fly rod had eyes bigger than their stomach.
Ranch security watching my every move.
After awhile I switched to my spinning setup and started tossing a Zara Puppy spook and then a Zman finesse frog. I caught several bass, lost count really, up to 2 to 2.5 lbs. Went up stream and had to drag in several spots, but fished 4 larger pools.
After turning around I packed up the spinning rod and tied on a woolly bugger to sightcast to catfish; something I've never done. Landed 3, broke off one, and lost a handful of others. Really had to set the hook hard to hook up. It was a blast.
Bonus Guad
Just a really fun trip on a beautiful river. Here's a 5 minute video of the waterfall for those that need a little zen:

hmm, I didn't get an invite.
Well, I had a nice bike ride Friday - and a good photo op at Medicine Wall
Great result, great fish, cool photos - think about me next time you have warning on a day like this.

I wasn't 100% sure I'd make the trip. I thought I was going to have to take my dog to see the vet, but we got him into 24 place Thursday night.
Given the state of of our rivers this was a tough trip with the amount of dragging, but it worked out.
Man, that bicycle is gorgeous.

thanks - keep me in mind for the next trip.
I've done well wading in at several headwaters springs during drought.
