Saint Mary’s Bayou - Matagorda Bay Condition

Post by Manny63 »

Have unexpected week off next week and wanting to head down to East Matagorda Bay.

I typically launch out of St. Mary’s Bayou or the Paddlesports Park; however, the last few times I went down there these launches were inaccessible due to low water conditions. Guess the northern winds had emptied them out.

Has anybody been down there recently? How’s the water level? Are there any alternative launch cites that may hold water when these don’t?

Much appreciated!

Water levels are up right now pretty much up and down the central and upper central coast including Matagorda. You should even be able to use a pedal drive when you launch at St Mary's if you have one. Right now NOAA is showing water level in Matagorda at about 1.24 above MLLW. You should be able to launch at either of these places long as it's above roughly 0.75. Here's the link to the NOAA website. Just click on the Matagorda station to get this and a lot more info.
