used hobie mirage pro angler 12

Post by raiderdude1973 »

Looking at buying a used Hobie Mirage Pro Angler 12 in very good shape. Has the Mirage drive 180 w/ST turbo fins, Hobie wheel cart,Hobie anchor trolley, Hobie oar, Vantage ST kayak seat, rod holders, etc. No electronics. No trailer. Person is selling for $2800.00. Is this a good buy?

If that's the kayak you are looking for and there are no cracks anywhere and no dimples on the bottom I'd say it's a fair price. Not a lot of options right now so finding a used kayak that you want isn't easy. Sellers market so sellers have the power. At least currently.

Check the scupper holes where you plug in that Hobie cart for cracks. I'm not sure of the year and exact models, but that seems to be a common failure mode on some Hobies. Apologies if the model you're considering isn't one of them, but it only takes a few seconds to check- if you know to look.

Also look for oilcanning (dimples as SWFinatic calls them) as that is also a common affliction, especially if they're not stored just right. Aside from diminishing the value, oilcanning from heat cuts down on efficiency and speed.
