In a kayak? Isn’t that in federal waters? Think that might be out of reach even for Prof Salt.

C'mon, it's only 9.5 miles from the beach.

Yeah that’s what I saw lol. Should make it there by noon if I launch at daylight.

FYI, it's still in State Waters. Line is 9 nautical miles, which is 10.3 statue miles.

For a strong paddler it’s not the distance that is the issue. When you’re that far from shore and a thunderstorm pops up, life can get more interesting than you want and those storms can move a lot faster than any of us. Been there...

Yup, me too. I've had some pretty terrifying mistakes getting caught offshore in thunderstorms.

Also if something goes wrong, not catastrophic in nature, but still hinders your ability to make normal speed, you're a lot further away from the shore. I'm thinking of things like technical issues (paddle/peddle drive/rudder/leak issues) or even small personal injuries like blowing out a shoulder or knee or something like that, or get a bad bleeder cut, etc... You're way out from self helping yourself back to shore.

I keep my offshore targets to about 5 miles max from shore.
