Ingleside on the Bay - March 10th, 2024

Post by Neumie »

As usual on a the day I have to travel back to San Antonio, we chose to fish a close by with a quick paddle. Thought about heading to Bayside on Copano, but the winds were slightly calmer than forecast so we ran south to Ingleside on the Bay. It was a pretty morning.

It was slow on the topwater so I switch to a soft plastic pretty quickly. I was soon awarded a solid 21.75" trout. The jighead was in her throat, so a couple of quick pictures, then cutting the line, I watched her swim away.

I kept fishing, but had very few bites. My sister did catch an undersized red.

On my last drift I came up on a dead trout; the one from earlier. The trout was about 80-100 yards away from where I released it 30-45 minutes earlier. Feeling a little guilty the trout didn't make it, I hopped into the water to grab the trout (no net), and strung it up.

That pretty much wraps up this trip. Got off the water around 11:00, went back to the cabin to rinse off gear and clean up, before heading back to SA. Chase stayed down and fished for a couple more days in Port O'Conner.

As I read the first part, I started wondering what the survivability rate was for a trout with a jighead in its throat would be. For this one, I guess the answer was 0%. At least it made it to your frying pan instead of becoming some lucky crab's dinner.

Perfect report, as always.
Beauty trout.
That's still a legal bag fish - the new rig will be implemented "sometime late in March"

A neighbor stopped by and told me he caught a 50-pound Black in Ingleside on a light rod & reel with a 10-pound leader, while I was in Arroyo City catching mostly hardheads! Oh, well. TexasJim
