Milk Crate

Post by barleydog »

Brain storm here guys...I'm looking for a standard sized milk crate that milk bottles are delivered to at the store, but none of the store I go to will part with them, b/c they say they would have to pay for them. I've offered to buy them, and go a no thanks. Wally world doesn't have the milk crate I need bt they doo have something that is a larger size. This won't work. The milk crate needs to fit inside the pre-made molded area inside a Malibu X-Factor. I've tried restrauant supply stores and have also had no luck.

So, what other places does anyone else know about that has these type of milk crates? Any place online maybe?

Thanks

Milk Crates

Barley Dog,
I too have an X-Factor and nobody wanted to part with the milk crates!! I went to the container store and they have authentic milk crates in several colors for $9.99. The are identical to the crates dairy companies use and fit in both the lower and upper crates slots in the X. Hope this helps!

Try the Container Store or the back of a convience store. Also try Target or Wally world. (Not affiliated with any of the aformentioned.)

Even better, if you see a milk truck, ask the driver. (Not a milk drinker, but I do like ice cream if someone want to sponsor me.)

Hey Barley Dog, take your yak out onto Town Lake on Saturday morning, when I was there two weeks ago I saw at least 3 milk crates floating around. Put in at the Holiday Inn ramp, and head upstream to the shallow area before the rowing boat docks - 2 were there, and the third one was across on the other side from Holiday inn, and towards the I35 bridge.

I should take some pics for this: Somewhere on this site is a pic of a milk
crate with a plywood hatch. I went even more simple. I had some 1/4 ply
wood laying around and it was about 1 inch to wide so I made the hatch
have a 1" lip on three sides. I drilled several holes near top of one edge of
crate and made matching holes on one edge of plywood, used tie wraps
and created hinges, I glued them once ajusted , so far worked great for me.
I have had them out twice, no problems. I used a cord to keep lid shut.

Only think I found was its hard for me to reach back and get things out of
the crate.

This may sound kind of bad, but some grocery stores set out stacks of them behind the stores. A late night trip maybe?

hmm I have one that I keep some tools in that I have had since 1976,
from a leading south texas three letter food store that at one time did
not sell beer and was not open on sunday.

I have a idea that if you ever come by something dishonest that deals with
fishing you will be jynx'd , go ahead and buy them, costs less than a
12-pack of brew.

I'm sorry, I meant it as a joke. A guy from work told me the same thing about where to find a crate for "almost" no money.

I have the Container Store milk crate and it is very good, stiff plastic. They actually have two models. The one I bought is the tougher one, but it is also about an inch or two shorter. The taller model is a little more flexible and has small "nubs" that are inserted into holes in another crate to connect them together and make storage units. Get the short, tough one.

Just so happened to meetmy partner yesterday morning fro a quick break at one of the gas stations while the food guys where delivering there products. I asked him if I could buy a couple milk crates. He told me that they do not sell them, but then asked how many I needed. I said one, he walked back into his truck then told me, well...here's two just in case. Cool....guess I just needed to be in the right place at the right time.

We went to Austin to go see the Eagles ( Lake Buchanan ). On our way we stopped at a convenience store for gas and snacks. While we were there a milk truck made a delivery. We tried to buy two crates but the driver wouldn't take any money and gave us four. We gave him some money anyway but still have and use the crates years later.

Bread crates are much better since they don't catch as much wind. The convenience stores where I have gotten several simply toss 'em.

I drove around all the C stores and grocery stores today looking for one maybe I could buy. No luck at all. They all had plastic crates, but they were those flat kind that hold 2 liter coke bottles and bread. I thought the milk guys must use some kind of new crate..

Borrowed mine from the back of a grocery store.

At some point I will have to pay my debt to humanity.

Go through the drive thru at Braums! While your waiting in line, pick up one or two from the back, then pay your debt by buying a couple of burgers! It's a win-win situation! :D
