Re: Bait caster handle side

Because I use my left hand for most everything, I cast with my left hand and reel with my right. I also hold the rod mainly in my left hand because I "feel" movement better with my left hand and have better control of the rod. Being a lefty means I also need to buy left handed scissors, ye...

Re: Help needed!

Speaking of leashes and getting tangled. If you have a knife make sure it has a line cutter that will cut your lines/leases with just one hand. If your knife doesn't already have one or it's not designed to cut with just one hand then go to a dive shop and get one. They are $$$ but worth it. A lot o...

Re: Help needed!

If you don't already have one get a VHF radio with the weather channels. A lot of the BTB guys keep in contact with each other via radio but you can also keep in contact with "base camp" PRACTICE THE BUDDY SYSTEM, never go out alone when you are a beginner. With the buddy system you can pr...

Re: Newbie baitcaster question

One more thing, those first baitcaster rod combos come in handy later on when you bring a buddy or have young kids you want to introduce to baitcasters. They are great learning tools.

Re: Newbie baitcaster question

Get the basics down on how to cast correctly and with accuracy . Try short distances first then as you can hit the same spot regularly, that includes throwing into the wind, increase your distance. While doing this learn what you need to adjust for the wind direction and conditions. If you will be c...

To be legal, yes, it is required, up to 30 minutes after sunrise. I do not like being in the surf when it is dark, hard to see what is happening around you. I have only ran baits out after dark and going out, no real problems, cause you are facing the waving coming at you. But coming in, you can't s...

OQ - I have downloaded the MyRadar app - a nice display. Q? - I do not see any lightning display with the radar, nor do I see an option to turn on the display. Perhaps there just is no lightning? I have gone to the heavier storms further east where there would likely be associated lightning, but se...

Re: Telephone poleing

As you come in as you feel the wave lifting the back of your boat up paddle backwards, hard if you have to. Where people get caught is trying to paddle with the wave. One of two things happen, bow plows below the water and you cartwheel or the bow plows and the boat turns quickly broadside to the wa...

This one seems for real this time. The Coast Guard is searching for a missing kayaker near San Luis Pass, Texas, Thursday. Re: Wader questions

Working for a kayak outfitter at one of our venues we have to stand in waist deep water this time of the year for up to 8 hours. The Magellan booted waders is what we have used in the past but they get hot quickly if you are not chest deep all the time. They are also very bulky to walk in but they a...

Re: Trailer Lights Malone Trailer

Chasing wiring problems on trailers don't connect the trailer to the ball of the tow vehicle, just plug the harness in. You won't get a false ground from the metal to metal connection the trailer ball gives. Also if you ever replace your trailer harness don't cut any extra on the harness off. Get so...

If you know how to free style swim then use those same motions to paddle. NRS makes some great PFDs. Remember ABC before you get on the water. Always Be Careful. Good luck!

Re: Tips for a beginner to kayak fishing

Learn how to self recover in deep water without any of your gear on the boat and learn how to paddle and control your boat correctly. Learn what your limits are slowly, as in baby steps. Don't go out the first time in strong winds or current without going into gentle winds and current first. As your...

Re: Oct 4 2018, San Luis Pass lights

Night fishing is a blast but when you have boats coming at you remember the lights in the background. Your 360° light blends in with them. If you wear a head light turn it on and take glances at on coming boaters. If they flash their light at you they see you.

I know where that big hole is..very deep!! Hard to anchor up in the pass if there is any current, lots of hard clay and the sand shifts around. Best to find a shallow sand bar to anchor on and drift your rode out enough to where you can fish the channels. Very good report. There are a few places in ...

Here is a rough drawing of how the wells will work. Only thing that is not in the drawing are the two flow control valves to control flow to either well.
