Going to be targeting big flounder in the next few weeks. I've never yakked the GSC. What is the recommended anchor rope length?
I have a VHF radio, PFD, anchor trolley, etc. There is some really good structure I've been itching to get to.

Also any recommendations on a depth finder. I'll be using a T140.

HSC at it's deepest points are 45+ foot, when I hit it for the drum run, I take 150' of line for my anchor and use a heavier anchor than I normally would for regular BTB. Just be sure to watch the current. it can kick up quick and suck an anchored kayak under, I'd advise the buddy system for this trip.

Re: Anchor rope length (GSC)
A 3.5 to 5 lb danforth anchor with 100 ft of rope will hold you, most times, in the HSC. Be sure you have one of the larger anchor floats as if that current is ripping at peak, it can hold all but the largest floats down underwater.
The best practice is to throw your anchor out while not attached to your yak then attach it after it has anchored. Be sure and have an anchor trolley so that you can keep your point of anchor at either the bow or stern of your yak. Being sideways in any strong current can be disastrous.
Good luck and stay safe................always have one or more pardners when fishing there.

Thank you

Guys, he is talking about fishing for flounder, not soaking bait for drum in deep water.
You will probably be towards the bank, around the dropoffs and walls. Water depth will be ~6-15', and the current will be much less than drumming in the HSC.
30' will be plenty.

I'll bring 50' just in case I guess, since that's the length the rope comes in. I might trim it closer to 30' not sure.Milkjug wrote:Guys, he is talking about fishing for flounder, not soaking bait for drum in deep water.
