Spinning reel....What do yall use?
We are looking to upgrade out spinning reels. Been using Shimano Sedona 2500 reels, for reds, specks, and flounder. We are using theses for friends and family that can't cast a baitcaster. Well we have been having issues with a couple of them, and after doing some research apparently Shimano has been having issues with their spinning reels and for some reason wont address the issue. After using the reel, it will start hanging up while reeling
Long story short what are yall using?

Re: Spinning reel....What do yall use?
4 Shimanos - haven't had any such issues.
Re: Spinning reel....What do yall use?
I use a Shimano Stradic Ci4 2500 and Shimano Stradic 3000, both with no issues. The Ci4 is a workhorse. I also use a Pflueger Patriarch in the 4000 size and it has been a BEAST. I love all 3 for different reasons.
Re: Spinning reel....What do yall use?
My first bass rig was a Sedona. Bail started to get sticky. Dunked it in local pond a few months later, and it was never the same. After taking it to a local shop and then futzing with it myself for an evening, it was never smooth again. Trashed it.
Ended up buying a new Okuma Stratus DS from Dicks, and it's been a workhorse. Dunked it several times. No problems.
Also picked a used Shimano Stradic 1000fi awhile back. Unbelievable smooth. The handle almost turns itself when I look at it. I love it, especially for the $65 I paid for it.
My buddy had a Sienna crap out on him after a few months, too.
I do not expect to buy a low-end Shimano ever again.

x2 on the stradic ci4. It's the best spinning reel I've ever used.aggie182 wrote:I use a Shimano Stradic Ci4 2500 and Shimano Stradic 3000, both with no issues. The Ci4 is a workhorse. I also use a Pflueger Patriarch in the 4000 size and it has been a BEAST. I love all 3 for different reasons.

I have three Ci4's, but my next reel will be the Sahara. I don't maintain my reels properly so am going for a cheaper reel.

I guess I am the only Daiwa guy on the forums This year my wish came true, Daiwa Ballistics and Procyon are now offered with the MAG sealed oil!
I have always been a huge fan of Daiwa spinning reels (nothing against Shimano) and they have never given me any issues.

Re: Spinning reel....What do yall use?
Battle 6000 and Spinfisher 3500. All of my baitcasters are Shimano, and my spinning reels are all Penn.
Re: Spinning reel....What do yall use?
I'm a spinning guy myself. I used to swear by Penn that was until I bought the fierce 4000. I used it 4x in fresh/saltwater fishing and it started to seize on me(retrieve gets tougher on every trip). Spool still spins freely. I took it apart and didn't see anything that jumped out at me. Plenty of grease and oil. Put it back together and 3 fishing trips later it's starting to get harder on retrieve again. I'll keep my SS spinfishers but I'll never buy Penn again. I made sure to soak/rinse after every trip as well.
I am looking at a Fin-Nor offshore as my next surf fishing reel

Curious as to what you mean by Soaksmtxom wrote: I made sure to soak/rinse after every trip as well.
Re: Spinning reel....What do yall use?
Been very happy with my Penn Fierce and Spinfisher. Take good care of them and they'll take good care of you.....Waiting for the Battle II to come out later this year...Also curious what sbtxom means by soak
Re: Spinning reel....What do yall use?
Gave up on Penn awhile back. Shimano Ci4 for inshore and Saros 3000 for offshore.

Re: Spinning reel....What do yall use?
I have 3 Sedona 2500 FD's that are holding up well- clean them after each trip. Even if they crap out after a year or two- the're $59.95 all day long.
Re: Spinning reel....What do yall use?
I have 2 Penn 4300 SS not sure when purchased (1990's) they were manufactured from 1992 to 2005. These are great reels, never any problems, easy to disassemble and clean. Can pick them up on EBAY for around $50. Purchased a Shimano Sedona a few years ago still go back to my Penns. Would highly recommend getting one.

Re: Spinning reel....What do yall use?
recently bought a few abu's (orra and revo)... crapped out. hav had a shimano symetre for 11 years... still strong, i feel like it is the curado of shimano spinning. picked up a sahara when the abus died, havnt had it long enough to give it a reel (<-- get it ) vote but so far so good
Re: Spinning reel....What do yall use?
Ci4 3000 hands down best all around inshore spinning reel out there. Tough, easy to maintain, smooth and can handle some really big fish
Re: Spinning reel....What do yall use?
I have somewhere in the neighborhood of 30 or so decent reels. I like them all but always end up using a Stradic. I have four and they are my "go to" reels 90% of the time. They take a beating, stay smooth for a long time and need little servicing. Super reels.
Re: Spinning reel....What do yall use?
I have an older Stradic MgFA and a newer Stradic FJ. Both have been great.

Re: Spinning reel....What do yall use?
Shimano Sonora 2500 = $50.00. I fish muddy muddy marsh. Every reel will grind in time, even the most expensive ones. This sweet little reel is rated for saltwater, has 4 bearings that are easily accessible for cleaning, holds line well, casts well, and handles reds all day. Slapped on a TFO 7'3" medium heavy for popping corks, or 6'6" TFO HOW medium power/fast action for sight casting.
