SATURDAY OCT 1 - RUN WITH THE BULLS AT HIGH ISLAND
For all you weekend warriors, the forecast for this weekend is calling for FLAT surf with single digit winds. It just doesn't get any better. The BULL RUN seems to be underway with reported catches up and down most beaches close to shore. At this time there can be some phenomenal catches of BULL REDS. See Rick at SEA PONY in Winnie for fresh pony mullet. As a reminder, starting October 1, you cannot posses or have on board any mullet over 12".
I don't think it will matter much where you launch but some of us will be at McFadden High Island on the dawn patrol Saturday morning. Just look for the kayaks and BTB flag. Should be a very nice day.
This is an open invite for all levels of experience as the predicted conditions will make launch and re-entry very safe and easy. See you folks on the beach.

Here is hoping that you kick some ass there! 2 weeks ago a few of us went to McFadden--perfect conditions.. after hearing reports of surf fishermen slaying the BRs.... the water was the clearest we had ever seen it.... you could see probably 8 feet down instead of the usual 2 inches.... pronounced water line,, bait jumping.. and we didn't catch sh*y......

How are the road going to McFadden? I'll be in my little honda. If need be i may launch near dirty pelican or the slabs. I'll check bull dog for mullet friday night. Tight lines to all

Fish, the drive down to Fadden is no problem. We are parked at the gate. Going to the Pelican could be a problem as the entry to the beach tends to be treacherous due to soft sand. Be careful you don't get stuck on the way out.

If all goes well, I'll be down for the running of the bulls on Saturday. Other then mullet, what is suggested for bait? Crab?

Fresh cut bait is the bait of choice, mullet, poagies, whiting, croaker. All will work well. See Rick at the Sea Pony in Winnie for bait. He will take care of you.

I'm game. I'll have to stop at the sign and park. Small two wheel drive car. Had good luck at Sea Rim with mullet two weeks ago.

Bill how you been buddy. I remember we caught sharks at Fadden one day. Came off anchor and thought we never would find our anchors again LOL.
Yeah I will be parked in the same place. See ya on the beach.

Mythman and I once ran a test on our Horizon VHF radios. I could talk to him from the bridge all the way to a few hundred yards off the beach at High Island. Pretty good reception.

Re: SATURDAY OCT 1 - RUN WITH THE BULLS AT HIGH ISLAND
I 10 to Winnie and south on 124 til you hit the beach then left up the lot to the end by the McFadden sign.
If you hit the ferry to Bilivar just right that may be quicker. Follow 87 to the end then continue into the lot.
ot really a wide dirt road. Goes for a while

Made it out there with wife and kids. Cool spot. My daughter and I launched on our first solo BTB but where highly disappointed with no even a Mosquito Bite. Tide looked to be on the low end. She came in after only being out 1 hour, with the rolling waves and an empty stomach se started to feel sick. Me and about 7 other yakers stayed out for a while and never got a bite. My family and I continued to fish from shore ccatching a few rat reds and croakers with small chunks of mullet. All in all much fun was had, and wife loved her first ferry ride at the end.
Re: SATURDAY OCT 1 - RUN WITH THE BULLS AT HIGH ISLAND
Ran a few baits out with the kayak and dropped them at ~9ft. Got 1 36" red after about an hour and another 37" 1.5 hours after the first one. No other bites, runs or catches for the entire 4 hour period. Had the VHF radio on our regular channel but didn't hear reports of any catches. Other guys fishing from the shore didn't look like they were having much luck either. Overall a pretty slow day and quite surprising given that Mythman & crew did so well just a few days ago.
At least the weather was beautiful out there.
