I feel kind of guilty about it since I took an old beater that hasn't been refinished in 5 years or so--maybe more.

I think it was more the shock value of being in a wood composite boat that everyone has the misconception of being fragile and still managing to finish with no damage.....not that I didn't try to do a lot of stupid things....

One of my highlights in that race was passing that ole boy that told me my wood boat would be toothpics before that race was over.

Yeah...2 guys in a red plastic tandem said basically the same thing to me. I never saw them again after the start of the race.
