Aquila Lake report

Post by Cudadude »

Will as it turns out, fishing at Aquila Lake was great. Hooked up with Huskysibe and hit the water around 10:30. We put in east of the bridge and crossed to the other side to work the shore line; once we got the bait figured out we got into some Sandy’s. And did a catch and release, As you can see the catfish looked way better. It was a very nice day to be out. Some over cast and low winds, today was Huskysibe first time in a kayak and he totally has the Yak Bug now  …Congrat! Huskysibe enjoyed the fellowship and the time on the water is always Golden!!

Great photos! Paddling a venerable Kingfish, too....those yaks are solid as Sears. How did you guys catch the kitties? My son and I have been hammering the crappies at Grapevine for a couple of weeks and now he really wants to land a blue cat from his yak. I lost a nice blue at yakside last week while crappie jigging. Are you running lines or rod n reel fishing?

You are right about the kingfish being a solid craft, I picked that thing up for 300 bucks to try and get my boys to come with me and it was well worth it..I use it mostly for people that never been in a yak, very stable yak. So far 2 for 2 on giving the new riders the yak bug..lol
As for kitties they’re all off of lines, did you see that big boy at the bottom of the stringer? Aquila has always been a great catfish lake.

Where did you launch from? Anyone going out there on Saturday? A buddy and I may head down there. I'm torn between trying Wheeler Branch again vs. trying Aquilla.

I believe it was Hackberry Creek access but I am not sure, it was my first time there. Coosadude would know for sure.

No problem. We went to the ramp on the west side of the dam. We caught 6 catfish and I caught the only bass... but it did get me some points on Kayak Wars. We estimated it a little over 4 lbs. Jason (picture with the catfish below) caught a 2+ pound cat that also got some points.

Its a beautiful lake. It was kinda windy when we got there... white caps... but it calmed down after a while.

Nice job Guys..Aqulia is a great kayak lake if you ask me..
Me and Huskysibe hit Benbrook Friday morning, and had a great time, the Bass was hitting the rubber worms pretty hard. We stayed on the water for about 4 hours..you couldn’t ask for a better day. (Clear day and no wind)
We need to hook up and make a day of fishing with you guys..
