Galveston Seaweed
Amazingly .... so far this year I have not seen one seaweed clump yet ... funny how one year can be so different from the next.
Last year this was the Seawall towards the end of June but it started rolling in by early May. The beaches are so much better without all that mess.

Define "better".The beaches are so much better without all that mess.
Better for beach restoration, dune formation, shorebirds, and the predatory fish we love to chase?
Or better for your average Houston tourist who wants a clean place to put out a towel?

Re: Galveston Seaweed
There are currents out in the Caribbean/Gulf that are carrying the weed to other destinations, this year.
The weed last year didn't keep me from fishing, but was a nuisance while on the beach.................I am enjoying no weed this year.

Re: Galveston Seaweed
That seaweed, while annoying, really helps beaches in the long run from what I have heard.
I am glad its gone as well.

Always stirring the $#!T as usual ...... it SMELLS better this year and I'll remind you that I have lived on the Island for over 35 years and on the seawall for over 20 of that so I do understand the Good_Bad_and_Uggly ..... as Coastie stated ... glad we caught a break so far this year
Re: Galveston Seaweed
TD, the real question is could one sink a Santa Cruz Raptor while floating on a dense sargassum mat, and would this change your feelings for our golden weed?

Re: Galveston Seaweed
Last year you couldn't even wet a line in the surf. Let alone set a shark rod out.
Re: Galveston Seaweed
The grass didn't bother me much......these are just a few that came out of standing right in the big matts! ButI definitely like the break this year!!!TexasSharkerBoy wrote:Last year you couldn't even wet a line in the surf. Let alone set a shark rod out.
