Calaveras Reds 17 JUL 2016

Post by Remus »

Greetings,
It has been a while since I posted anything on this forum. I finally have something to talk about. Made it to the lake around 0630 and was able to net a decent amount of baby tilapias and a few Shad at the boat ramp. There were about 4-5 other kayakers but did not recognize any of the faces. Good to see other fellow kayakers.
Reds- I fished until 1100am and caught 4 Reds in the 22-24 inch range and a couple of cats 2lbs using live bait.
I was fishing the 181 cove and was surrounded by fishing guides going up and down the cove.
Very little wind and overcast. Not a bad day. Hope to go back soon. Miss the company though.

We need more kayakers using the lake.
The Reds they putting on a show breaking the surface feeding just before the dam around 0700. Caught one a soon as the bait hit the water. Pretty cool.

Looks like it was a good day for you.
I use to love to fish Calaveras but now that the management company charges per kayak, wont go back.

No gator spotted. I kept my feet in the kayak and was aware of my area while taking a piss.

Nice catch Harry!
Really cool markings on that one red.
I'm itching to get out there but I'm dealing with some back issues so right now my kayak is in dry dock.
Hopefully I will get back out there maybe this fall.

Unfortunately, work will not allow. Maybe I can make it out on Saturday, so look forward to your report.

I took a drive out there Thursday morning not to fish but just check out the lake.
About 10 kayakers vehicles at the launch and everyone including all the guides seemed to be in the cove across the lake.
Be sure to post up a report guys.
I noticed also that someone stole the alligator sign.....That didn't last long!

I think the 50 red and 50 catfish days are over, but there is always hope. Not going to make it Saturday, Sunday maybe.
