Surfside / Quintana fish kill

Went down to surfside yesterday to some wading for specs, several miles of the beach from the jetties east were littered with thousands of dead shad. They were gone by about public beach access rd 4, but there were still a large number of dead hermit crabs, out of the shells washing up. TPWD says it was a low oxygen event. Apparently Quintana was worse. We went over to Christmas bay as well and there no dead shad there, all was normal. TPWD said yesterday it was due to run off from the Brazos. The only time I saw that many dead fish on the beaches was after hurricane Alicia. Hopefully this is short term event.
