Re: Bastrop/Smithville Fly Fishers?

Good luck, I'm in New Braunfels, and not necessarily looking for a club per se, but with diminishing contributions to this forum it would be hard to justify a club based off of thread replies. The average thread in this forum gets about 10 replies. You might have better luck creating a club by sendi...

That's awesome! I've seen bass chase smaller bass and sunfish that are struggling, but have never had this happen!

Re: April Photos

Way to go man. I haven't pulled a decent LMB out of the Guadalupe in awhile. I'm having to switch up to some deepwater tactics by Cypress Bend. Finesse jig real slow on the bottom and catching them in more than 8-12 ft of water. I bet this gal was a fun fight. I've hammered two decent bass off the b...

Re: March Photos

What better way to enjoy the warming days than targeting bedding bass... A friend, his younger brother and I floated the Guadalupe yesterday and at 400+ cfs it was flowing well. Bluebird skies helped keep the bass shallow under cover all day. Preying on nesting bass I was targeting cover very near s...

Re: Kayak size

When comparing similar kayaks (Ascend 10' vs Ascend 12'), then 2' will make a difference. However, some kayaks are designed to be stood in- take the WS Ride for example. No problem standing in 11.5' or 13.5' feet. As a general rule, a 12' kayak is the compromise length. Good for maneuverability on r...

Since the Guadalupe has been cruising at 1100 cfs lately I decided to hit Fayette outside La Grange. Loaded up a PA12 and I'm glad I did, the wind was brutal. Fished an underspin the entire time all around exposed timber and managed a 91" bag in 3 hours. I'd never fished an underspin jig before...

PDL is also the highest gear ratio drive unit out, so less pedaling involved all-around.

Demo Days are 5% off kayaks and typically 15% off accessories. Some select kayaks are up to 30% off (used or clearance models, selection dependent on location and availability).

Nice bass Zack, you know that jig combo has been my go-to for nearly a year. It has worked to pull in quite a few stellar bass and it looks like you dialed in a PIG. That's between 5.5-6# for sure and I'd say closer to 6! Great work. I haven't had much time to fish this month with a new job, however...

Re: January Pictures

I'm good on those days too. Lake isn't even above 910' (909.88'), and inflow (515cfs) is almost down to 400 cfs, so I really don't think they're gonna open it more than 400 cfs. They've been real receptive to keeping flow steady when between 909-910'.

Dude, you're killing it! That Palomino is gorgeous, but that's not in the same spot you mentioned you saw the other one... I'm free next week if you find time to go wading again. I need some rainbow in my life!

Made it out to the GuadaComa at the tail end of the rainstorms yesterday and fished for about 1.5 hours. Tried and true jig/craw combo brought in two just above the Comal. Water clarity wasn't too bad, about 2', but was less than 1' in the Comal so I stayed upstream of the Comal. Biggest was 19"...

Re: January Pictures

For about two years my Ride has been plagued with a persistent leak, two cracks right in the keel slightly behind my seat. I've done plastic soldering, duct tape, marine patches and eventually spray foam and though they might have slowed the leak they never really fixed it. I spent a day last week r...

Re: January Pictures

Zack and I had every intention of flyfishing for trout and stripers on the Guadalupe yesterday, but the wind was having nothing of it. Zack is a tried and true flyfisherman and was being real patient while I tried to untangle mess after mess of knots in my leader and tippet setup. Trout fishing is s...

I know it has been cold but I'm sure some of you have been on the water! I made it out yesterday to Cypress Bend and paddled down to the Comal and up. Air temp was about 51˚ and the Guadalupe felt super cold. The fish in the long flat section all pile up in the lower Comal because that water is noti...

Re: December Pictures

Slow overnight trip on the Colorado this past weekend, but did manage one nice Largemouth. The colder weather had them all holding tight to cover and the river seemed super shallow compared to my last trip. I think a lot of this has to do with construction of a bridge that has loosened topsoil and e...

Re: Measure with mouth open or closed ???

Mouth closed would be the true length and most state agencies require mouth closed when submitting for awards/records. Fish don't swim around with their mouths open, so with that in mind I'd say the "standard" should be mouth closed. Sometimes it's hard to get them to cooperate though!

You still have my number right? I'm down whenever, would really like to hit the SM, looks like rain this weekend, but maybe mid-next week? They'll be biting after this rain and cold, supposed to be bright, sunny and 70s next week.

Re: November Photos

I floated from the dam to Gilligan's Island again last Saturday. I boated close to two dozen fish the biggest being a Largemouth just under 19". Lost one real early on that was definitely bigger- I have to remember to keep turning their heads when I fish a jig, much different than a Texas rig. ...

Re: Lake Boerne is a true test of fishing patience...

I'll second a few sentiments... especially the light line in clear water. Drop down to 6# green mono leaders or similar fluoro. Clear water fish are smart and can see you typically long before you get to them. Be careful of the shadow you cast. Don't let your lure make a huge splash near the locatio...

No, I didn't see any... and again, you and I need to make a Striper float... flyrods only. I knew I was floating right through them, but I'm just too die hard of a black bass fisherman. I did see two huge Koi fish, and the Koi part isn't too unusual. I've seen them before around Devil's Playground, ...

Re: November Photos

Had to take an opportunity to fish before the front pushed in yesterday. Made a solo paddle from Canyon Dam to Gilligan's Island, below 3 Xing, almost 11 miles. The fishing was phenomenal until shortly after the front pushed in. Besides the Barred Owl, Axis deer, multiple flocks of turkeys and a few...
