06/02/14 another night at tiki

Post by Asherb »

Launched around 11:30pm to a falling tide. To windy to fish the south side so made my way around the north. Not a whole lot of action but the trout I caught were piggies. Kept two one at 19 and one at 22 which is the largest I've caught at a light at night. First time I've ever been taken on a sleigh ride by a trout. Picked up a lower slot red as well. Can't wait to get back on the south side. Wind out of the south east at 12-16 mph. Air temp 75. Water temp 76. Visibility poor. All fish caught with gulp pearl swimming mullet and 1-1/2" shad I scooped out of a light.

Reports like these really make me anxious to get some new kayaks. The canals in Jamaica Beach are good as well.

Never fished Jamaica beach at night. Always plan to hit there and Sea Isle but never seem to make it past tiki.

Jamaica Beach has a very good launch. The fish that roams around are mostly specks and sand trout. The middle canal is deeper than Tiki and not that good on Flounder. Reds usually are rats.

Sea Isle is similar situation to Jamaica Beach, but the layout of the house canals make it a bit harder to fish. In other words, you have to travel more between house canals to find fish and you can't use visual or hearing confirmation to go / no go into a canal so you don't waste time in non-productive zones.

Fished these spots late fall to early winter, so that might be the cause of the weak results on reds.
