Those nasty lifejackets are hot, bulky, and uncomfortable in the heat, but that's beside the point!

That's really sad. Prayers for the family and a quick recovery. If he had a medical emergency that caused him to enter the water, he could at least had a fighting chance if he had a pfd on. At the very worst, the recovery would be quicker.

Seems like a lot of folks have this outlook...
It's summer, plus i'm a great swimmer. It'll be fine.

At the start of summer, after the first drowning in an area lake, one of the rescue guys on TV said: "We've NEVER recovered a drowning victim that was wearing a PFD!" That pretty much says it all.

I couldn't believe how many kayakers we saw on Lake Grapevine today coming out of Twin Coves without a PFD. It was windy enough I didn't really like being out on the water in the yak so we fished from the bank. We even saw Flower Mound Police (from jet ski) retrieve a PFD that floated across the lake. Either I'm just a wuss, or they're just ignorant...
